As a maternity photographer, I aim to provide my clients with an experience they won’t ever forget. Part of that service is getting to know my clients before we even have our session. This way, you are not just meeting a stranger the day of your portraits. As part of our process, we discuss in depth the expectation for your session, color and wardrobe preferences. We also talk through any specifics that you would like to carry into your newborn session!
For this amazing mama, she wanted to have fairytale pinks and blue, florals, and softness in her images. She wanted to incorporate wings, a crown, and pearls. After choosing and discussing her dress looks, I pulled out complimentary backdrops, fabrics, and accessories to build on her wishes.
Getting to know your clients beforehand allows you to build on their vision. With her color preferences in mind, I pulled some beautiful floral backdrops I had not shot yet to compliment her looks. As it turns out, she told me she grew up with a similar floral to the blue and white backdrop in her parents home, and the blue and pink floral backdrop reminded her of her grandparents. They had a similar painting in their home as well, and her grandfather brought her grandmother pink roses fairly often. It was an amazing moment for her in realizing this and just makes these images that much more special.
When I’m photographing expectant moms, sometimes our sessions are a cathartic experience for my clients. They may not be feeling their best during the pregnancy, and the little things can just mean so much more when they are pampered for a few hours. They see themselves in a completely different light during their shoot, we talk about shared experiences, sometimes we laugh, and sometimes we cry. It is all a celebration of you!
