This adorable grandparents session features not one but TWO sets of grandparents. Originally we were supposed to shoot this session all in one day, but this year was one of the wettest on record, for New Jersey anyway. It seriously felt like every single weekend in the summer and fall was raining. We had probably 3 or 4 reschedules for this family’s session, and finally had to split it into two separate days to make it happen.
There is just something so special about photographing grandparents with their grand-babies. Your children’s bond with your parents is such an incredible thing to see, and really makes us see our own parents in a different light. Having had grandparents into very old age (101!), I really treasure this bond in families. Maybe it’s because I have very few images with my own grandparents, that I treasure these sessions so much. I definitely know how close of a bond I had with mine, so I’ll just keep those memories safe.
The kids were truly amazing, and such good sports given they had to do this twice! Abby was a total little lady, and Logan was feisty, fun, and full of mischievous giggles and laughter. If you could personify mischief, it would be him. But in such a good way! You smile just looking at his face in these photos, and it makes your heart smile too. These photos will be an amazing treasure for all of them for many, many years to come! And we capped off both sessions with a few sweet portraits of the kids themselves.

Photographing grandparents with their grandkids
As we know, kids have a threshold when being photographed. The reschedules worked in our favor since we ended up having to split this up because of the weather. As a small group, this would have been totally doable in one day, but for larger groups it is advisable to split generational shoots such as these into smaller family units. There is just too much expectation for kids’ unpredictable personalities and moods for larger groups!
