Welcoming a new baby into a family is always meaningful—but when it’s a family I’ve had the honor of documenting from the very beginning, it is even more special.
This session marked the arrival of baby number three, a beautiful baby boy, into a family whose story I’ve been privileged to follow since mom’s very first pregnancy. With each chapter, there’s a sense of continuity. And this session was everything wrapped in a beautiful, chaotic, bow.
Because this time, it wasn’t just mom and dad. It was two toddlers, a newborn, proud parents, and a loving grandmother—all stepping into the frame together.
From the start, mom envisioned a classic, cohesive color palette for her newest baby: soft neutrals, gentle blues, warm browns, and the signature olive green we’ve used with each of her children. That olive tone, in particular, has become something of a thread woven through their family’s “chapters” with me. The same beloved felted heart prop and woolen had his big brother wore, made its return, once again in that matching green. The angel wings, too, made another appearance, a third iteration of this pose with mom. And in a full-circle moment, we mirrored the green and blue parent portraits from her firstborn’s session, bringing a sense of symmetry to both of their boys’ sessions.
These are the details that turn portraits into heirlooms.

Of course, alongside all of this came the beautiful, unpredictable chaos of photographing a family with multiple young children. Wrangling one toddler into a posed moment requires patience. Wrangling two—while incorporating a newborn, coordinating parent shots, and including grandmother portraits—becomes an art form all its own. There were moments of negotiation, gentle persuasion, and yes, a touch of stubborn determination on my end.
But within that chaos, is tiny bits of magic. The toddlers brought life into every frame. Their curiosity, their bursts of laughter, their fleeting but genuine moments of connection with their new baby brother—these are moments that can’t be posed.
Grandma stepped in, lovingly (and patiently) holding that perfectly chunky baby while we worked to bring everything together. Her presence added another layer of depth, and tradition, as she’s done with all of “her” babies.
And through it all, baby boy himself was an absolute dream. His little features that mirror his brother the most, those perfect rolls (he’s the biggest of their babies), and that peaceful stillness amid the high energy around him. And when everything came together—when the toddlers paused just long enough, when mom and dad leaned in, when grandma held him close—there it was.
Joy. You can see it in all of their faces, a beautiful, chaotic, joy that is truly theirs. I am so very happy for them.
