Welcoming a second child is always a special milestone, but when it’s a family I’ve had the privilege of photographing from the very beginning, it becomes something truly meaningful. This session marked the arrival of their second baby girl, and like all of their sessions before, it was thoughtfully designed around mom’s clear vision and her favorite color—purple.
From the very start, it was clear that this family knows exactly what they want, and we were able to bring that vision to life once again. Purple has been a consistent thread throughout their family’s story—from the first maternity session, to big sister’s newborn portraits, to this newest chapter. It serves as both a personal favorite and a subtle signature, tying together memories across time.
Unlike her first pregnancy, which was captured in the middle of a summer heatwave, her maternity session benefited from a cooler, calmer studio session. For this baby, we maintained elements of green from previous sessions, blending them seamlessly with soft lavender tones, and delicate florals. The matching tones create a cohesive story from pregnancy through to baby’s arrival.
We also honored the family’s tradition of recreating certain signature images. A soft purple swaddle, layered in a bed of tulle, mirrored the setup used for big sister’s newborn portraits. Muted old rose tones from big sister’s session, also gave a sense of continuity while still allowing this little one’s unique presence to shine. These repeated elements are a subtle but meaningful way to document the family’s growth while creating a visual story when they are all displayed together.
One of the highlights of the session was undoubtedly her photo with her sister. Big sister’s gentle embrace and tender expression while snuggling her new baby in the purple tulle captured such a sweet and special moment.
Baby girl herself was serene and content, waking up towards the end, for this adorable sleepy, stretchy photo. A little, “Hello, who are you, and why am I here/are we done?” moment.
