Capturing your child’s first communion in portrait form is a beautiful way to celebrate your little one growing up. The formality of this milestone makes them seem like little adults, but in reality, we see all of their innocence. When looking for a photographer to capture your child’s first communion photos, look for someone whose style resonates with you. Communion portrait sessions typically take place a month and a half before their special date. Some families do prefer to schedule their session after the communion itself to lessen any stress or pressure.
If you are looking to have a celebration for your child and have some photos on display – scheduling first communion pictures well in advance will guarantee you have images to share on their special day.
The story behind these portraits, is that mom is probably one of my longest standing clients. She had scheduled photos to be taken of her and her brother as a gift for her own mother, when I first started out. It was a beautiful, free-spirited session in the midst of Spring flowers, a sweet moment between siblings. They were both adults then, a testament to it never being too late to take photos of yourselves for mom. I know those are still a prized possession for her today and always. I subsequently photographed her brother’s family and new baby back then as well. Now I have the pleasure of capturing some graceful, poised portraits of her sweet little girl. We incorporated a few sentimental pieces into these photos including a personalized rosary, and mom’s own vintage bible and gloves from her own communion.
As we know, time with our “babies” passes all too fast. One day you’re bringing them home from the hospital, and the next they are seven or eight years old. Your whole world has flown by. For this session, we chose a handful of fine art prints, as well as a gorgeous framed canvas to hand in her home.

Mom chose some loose matted fine art prints and a 24×36 framed floating canvas with brushed steel finish for her final artwork.
