One of the most popular holiday session requests every year is for Christmas Tree Farm Photos. As the holiday season approaches, many families are frantically searching for “christmas tree farm photos near me” or “holiday mini sessions near me” into google on their phones to find the perfect setting for this year’s family memories!
If you already follow your favorite family photographer however, you are likely aware that most photographer release their holiday sessions, including Christmas tree farm photos, in the summer. Sometimes it’s even earlier! If you are not a current client, it is best to sign up for their newsletter or mailing lists, to make sure you are notified of early releases so you don’t miss out.
Every year I end up with a waiting list of families for the tree farm, because let’s be honest. Your mind is probably not thinking about Christmas until Halloween is over! However, most of my tree farm photos take place in late September and early October, when the weather is still milder and more comfortable for your little ones. November can start getting really cold, and depending on weather, there may not be any flexibility in reschedule dates should the weather not cooperate.
NJ Christmas Tree Farm
Our Christmas tree farm is located on a private family farm, where we are given exclusive access to one of their beautiful vintage trucks from the 1940’s or 1950’s. There is not battling other photographers, or throngs of people trying to cut down their trees for the holiday. It is a quite and serene location owned by several generations of this family, that only rents to a few of the same photographers every year.

What to wear for Christmas Tree Farm Photos
Families often ask what they should wear for their Christmas tree farm photos, since we are primarily using red and green in our scenario. The truck is typically decorated in similarly toned props or accessories. Any combination of the following colors look great in this setting:
- Red, grey, & navy
- Camel or gold, red, & cream
- Hunter/emerald green, and grey
- Green & red
- Warm, muted, neutral tones ** A note on white – Many families like neutrals for their photos, however, for outdoor sessions, I would advise against pure white. White flares outdoors, especially in sunlight, and can create glow, or glare on camera. Sometimes, it can even take on a blue tint. For the cozy vibes of the holidays, warm creams, ivories, and other warm neutrals will look great in place of white.
