I absolutely adored this growing little family, who came to me for an outdoor family maternity session a few weeks ago. Mom is expecting in December, and despite the schizophrenic fall weather we have been having this year, we were blessed with a gorgeous day, with the leaves just starting to turn.
Capture the love and anticipation outdoors with your maternity session in beautiful NJ
New Jersey has so many beautiful outdoor locations – from beaches, to woodlands, to public parks and gardens. As you can see from this session, one location provided us a variety of difference ambient light and looks. We even got some golden buttery light since the leaves were more sparse, allowing the sun to just bathe this mom in a gorgeous golden halo. Mom chose mostly softer looks, as she is expecting a baby boy to join his big sister. The light colors really played well with the springtime feel of the session and that golden light.
The black pearl sheer dress, however, was a stunner! I don’t typically photograph black outdoors, as it has a tendency to look like a blob of darkness. However the sheerness of this piece and its shimmery bits, combined with mom’s lovely tan really made her stand out against the nature. Dad brought a black shirt as well to tie it all together. The look ends up not looking harsh at all in its environment.
Speaking of dad – I also don’t typically advise dads to wear lighter blue jeans since they tend to look a bit too casual for what moms generally wear. Proving that every rule is meant to be broken, these jeans worked across the board. The softness of the blue really tied into both mom’s light blue look, and the black set – unifying the blue water shades in the background.
Big sister was amazingly cooperative for her age and joined in for a few photos with mom and dad. We finished the session with her and mama in the water for a few beautiful, sweet shots.

This lovely session went into a custom photo album with color coordinated binding and box to really create a custom piece for this mom to treasure.
