There is something incredibly special about photographing a family through more than one chapter of their story. I have had the pleasure of photographing this beautiful family since Mom’s very first pregnancy, and getting to welcome them back as they prepared to meet their second little girl was such a joy.
This time, we leaned fully into Mom’s love of all things feminine and girly — with shades of soft white and pink, plenty of sparkle, and gowns that made her look every bit like the glamorous mermaid she was meant to be. Some were soft and ethereal, others more dramatic and flowing, but each one captured a different side of pregnancy: graceful, powerful, beautiful, and completely captivating.
And then there was big sister – like a tiny, twinkling fairy all on her own, bringing her sparkling personality and endless charm to the session. Whether she was snuggled close to Mom or simply being her delightfully expressive self, she added something unmistakably her to these portraits. There is something especially beautiful about seeing a child step into the role of big sister while still being so wonderfully little herself.
Of course, this family session wouldn’t be complete without a nod to one their favorite sports team – something that has carried through from their first maternity and big sister’s newborn sessions. Matching name jerseys for Mom, Dad, and the girls brought the perfect dose of personality to the gallery — a playful little chapter nestled among all the pink, sparkle, and glamour.
But at the heart of these portraits is the anticipation of becoming a family of four.
The images of Mom and Dad together beautifully capture the depth of their love and the excitement surrounding this next chapter. There is something different about expecting a second baby — you are not simply imagining the child who is about to arrive, but imagining an entirely new version of your family. Watching your first little love become a big sister. Making room for another personality, another laugh, another tiny hand to hold.
And throughout it all, Mom stands at the center.
Her maternity portraits celebrate not only the baby she is carrying, but the strength of the woman carrying her. There is power in a mother’s body, in its ability to grow and nurture another life, and in the transformation that comes with each pregnancy. These portraits allowed her to celebrate that beauty — not by hiding the changes, but by embracing them and seeing herself as the strong, feminine, radiant woman she is.
From their first pregnancy to this second daughter, it has been an absolute privilege to preserve these milestones for their family. And as they prepare to welcome another little girl into their world, I cannot wait to see where their story takes them next.
