This session is a bit different, if not special for me. For this family, who are also friends, their “newborn” session took the form of a 3 month baby session. You might be wondering, why? Why Sofia, when you specifically tell us that the newborn time frame for a newborn session is before the 2 week old mark? While unconventional, I’ll tell you why. Big, little sister, was born during the Covid pandemic. During her newborn time frame, we physically were not allowed to work. And when we were finally allowed to do so, it was outdoors, so she was 3 months old when we took her “newborn” photos.

For this reason alone, mom and dad wanted to repeat the same style of session, to mirror his sister’s. Like his sister, we took some wrapped photos in a prop, did some lay down shots, and some family shots. With big sister, we had focused on neutral and peachy tones, so we repeated this, and subbed peach with blue and grey for baby boy. We even took the water shots with mom in the same dress as before. Luckily, I had it in a silver color instead of rose gold like three years ago.

Funnily enough, just like with big sister’s session, we had such an odd day with weather. In 2020, we had a near miss with a thunderstorm during our shoot, and then sun and clouds – almost every type of weather that day. A similar situation happened during this session, the weather flirting with rain and sun. But we lucked out and created some beauties. I especially love the ones of his big sisters and him in the basket together!
Since this was really a 3 month baby session, you can see posing and styling are different than typical newborn. We focused more on posing with the rest of the family, and only a few of baby alone. We did get lucky that he slept in the beginning for some adorable snuggled shots in a prop.
Overall, we had a really lovely time, despite the lighting challenges brought on by the clouds, and shot until basically “blue” hour (That’s the time after golden hour, fyi). Outdoor sessions can be tricky in this sense, and with all the hubbub, toddlers, as you know, have little patience. But surprisingly, both baby and toddler big sister were absolute troopers!
