There is something especially meaningful about welcoming families back into the studio as their story continues to grow. As a New Jersey maternity photographer, one of the greatest privileges of my work is documenting these milestones over the years, creating artwork that tells the complete story of a family’s journey. After photographing this beautiful family last year before their youngest daughter’s first birthday, it was such a joy to see them again as they prepared to welcome their third baby—a sweet little boy.
Originally, this experience was planned as a collection of Mother & Me portraits. Mom wanted to preserve this fleeting chapter with her youngest daughter while she was still her baby, creating images together in soft shades of blush and delicate neutrals. We intentionally carried the color palette through from their previous sessions so these portraits would beautifully complement the artwork they already have displayed in their home.
As we discussed the session, I realized there was one milestone missing from their family’s story. Despite expecting her third child, mom had never experienced a maternity session. While this wasn’t originally intended to be a full maternity portrait session, it felt like the perfect opportunity to celebrate this season of motherhood with a few maternity images just for her before their little boy arrives.

Blending Mother & Me Portraits with Maternity
With the help of the family’s wonderful mother’s helper, who kept little sister entertained between sets, we were able to dedicate extra time to photographing mom on her own. Those uninterrupted moments allowed us to create graceful maternity portraits to highlight the incredible journey of carrying her third baby. Soft pink gowns, flowing fabrics, and timeless neutral styling created an elegant collection that felt cohesive with every portrait we’ve created together over the years.
What I loved most about this session was how effortlessly it balanced both milestones. The Mother & Me portraits captured the tenderness between a mother and the daughter, while the maternity portraits celebrated the anticipation of welcoming another precious life into the family.
We ended the afternoon with the sweetest moments of all. Against layered neutral backdrops, mom wrapped her little girl close as they shared cuddles, laughter, and quiet embraces that needed almost no direction. These are often the photographs families treasure most—the simple moments that preserve exactly how it felt to hold their little one.
Watching families return as their children grow is one of the greatest joys of being a New Jersey maternity and motherhood photographer. It is an honor to create portraits that become part of a family’s legacy, preserving not only how these seasons looked, but how they felt. I cannot wait to welcome this family back once again to meet their newest little boy and continue documenting the beautiful story they are creating together.
