Can I just start off by saying that the biggest compliment any client can pay me, is by coming back! The other, is by referring me to their friends and family. I adore this family, and I had the pleasure of photographing mom not once, but twice during her first pregnancy. This was almost two years ago with her baby girl. I also photographed her, her mom, and her daughter for some cultural fine art portraits last year. Now, I had the pleasure of photographing her once more for this second, blessed pregnancy awaiting a baby brother!
Green, Gold, and Florals for Maternity Photos
We planned her session around a few key colors, green, gold, teal – no obvious baby blue was the only request. While mom had originally selected a shimmery gold flowing dress, I had just received this brand new golden robe. When mom said she preferred green, I had seen this backdrop from ZoomBackdrops that I just HAD to order for her. The pairing was just divine. Doesn’t she look like an absolute QUEEN in this look? A golden goddess! Thinking about colors that work best for you, and not just what’s “right” for your baby’s gender, pays off. Mom’s warm undertones in her skin worked beautifully with the browns, golds, and greens here. The makeup played of the wardrobe, the hair played off the backdrop, etc.
And can we talk about sweet baby sister? She came in shy, but I was soon gifted with the cutest diapered baby hug mid-session. Those little bouncy curls are just to die for.
Florals of eucalyptus and fresh hydrangea gave these colors a softness and a different dynamic in the portraits. A blooming belly, if you will. We played with gel lighting, shimmery fabrics, and ended the session with a neutral note – since we had done the same for her daughter’s pregnancy. If you notice, we snuck in a bit of blue too in the form of this beaded sheer gown from Before & Ever.
I cannot wait to meet this new little baby!
