There’s something incredibly special about clients who travel long distances for their portraits. Knowing that expecting parents carve out the time, make the trip, and trust me with such a meaningful moment of their lives is something I appreciate beyond words. For this beautiful maternity session, these parents-to-be made the journey from upstate New York, and I was so honored to create something memorable for them as they prepare to welcome their little one.
From the moment they arrived, their vision came together so effortlessly. Soft blues and timeless neutrals created the dreamiest palette—elegant, serene, and filled with a quiet romance that suited them perfectly. Dad looked absolutely picture-perfect throughout the session, stepping into tailored suits that complemented each of mom’s looks beautifully. Their styling together felt refined, while still allowing their connection to remain the heart of their portraits together.
We began with mom’s original wardrobe selections, carefully planned before the session. But one of my favorite things about studio sessions is leaving room for unexpected inspiration. As we moved through the wardrobe, mom spotted a gorgeous two-piece look displayed on a mannequin in the studio. She decided to try it—and it quickly became one of her favorite looks of the entire session.
Moments like these happen more often than people realize. So many women arrive with a very specific vision in mind, but once they settle into the experience, they begin discovering versions of themselves they didn’t anticipate loving. Sometimes the unexpected choice becomes the one that feels most them.
Another standout from the session was a soft, ethereal floral gown that felt absolutely made for the two of them. The look was delicate and romantic—demure yet stately, with an understated elegance that photographed beautifully. In one of those little studio moments that often become magic, a floral earring was quickly pinned into mom’s hair and transformed into the sweetest soft hairpiece. Such a simple touch, but it completed the entire look perfectly.
Although we captured many beautiful blue-toned portraits, mom shared during our zoom gallery reveal that she surprised herself by choosing just as many neutral looks. And truly, that’s part of the beauty of these sessions. Sometimes moms arrive with one idea of who they’ll be in front of the camera, only to discover they feel more empowered, more renewed, and more themselves in spontaneous choices they never expected.
Those little surprises often become the most beautiful part of the experience.
